Mark Selby is the new favourite to win the 2011 World Snooker Championship after a commanding performance against Stephen Hendry

Barring a miracle from Stephen Hendry on Monday afternoon, Mark Selby is going through to the quarter final of the World Snooker Championship and the bookmakers are in agreement that the Jester from Leicester is now favourite to win his first ever world title.

Sponsors Betfred are the bravest with their quote of 7/2 about Selby landing the title and he will play the winner of the Ding Junhui v Stuart Bingham match, with Bingham surprisingly 9-7 up as the pair head into the final session.

It means that the Chinaman can now be backed at 12/1 (Skybet) on the outright market, although those odds are sure to shorten if he can overhaul Bingham and set up a mouth-watering last eight clash with Selby. On the other hand, Bingham can be backed at 50/1 (Betfred) and it should be remembered that he beat Peter Ebdon in the first round.

Staying with the top half of the draw, Victor Chandler offer 10/1 that we see a first-time winner in the form of Judd Trump and the 22-year-old has been mightily impressive in beating both Neil Robertson and Martin Gould to reach the quarter finals.

Trump will now play Graeme Dott in the past eight and there is no disputing that the Scot had a formidable record at the Crucible which has seen him reach the final three times in the past seven years, winning in 2006. If you fancy him to land a second title, he can be backed at 14/1 with bet365.

The bottom half of the draw includes John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan, who are on a collision course to play each other in the quarter final. Both players are in the ascendancy in their second round matches at the moment, with Higgins 10-5 up against Rory McLeod and he is 4/1 with Betfred to win the World Snooker Championship again.

O’Sullivan has a tougher battle on his hands to book a place in the last eight, with Shaun Murphy closing the gap from 6-2 to 9-7 in their second round match, although the Rocket remains available at 9/2 (Paddy Power) to land a fourth world title.

We shouldn’t forget about the excellent Mark Williams, who has played arguably the most consistent snooker out of everyone and is a strong favourite to beat Mark Allen in the quarter finals. He is on offer at 11/2 with Paddy Power, with Allen now 16/1 with Ladbrokes for the title.
