The 2009 Welsh Open is being held at the Newport Centre, South Wales, from 16 to 22 February.

With a prize fund totalling £225,500, the winner will receive a cheque for a tidy £35,000, while just turning up will gain the players £1,325.

From the first round up to and including the semi-final stages, each match is played over a maximum of nine frames, with the first to five being the winner. Matches in the last-four are extended to 11 frames, with the final the best of 17, played over two sessions.

Defending champion Mark Selby is on course to meet world number one and tournament favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final, which would be a repeat of last year's - won by The Jester From Leicester in the 17th frame.
