Five-eighth Todd Carney wants to repay NSW coach Ricky Stuart's faith in him during the State of Origin decider next Wednesday.

Carney's hopes of ever making State of Origin were written off by many after another difficult season in 2011, but Stuart waited for Carney to get settled and back on his feet at NRL level before putting his trust in the No.6 to lead the way for the Blues.

The 26-year-old is now enjoying his most consistent season in the NRL, and he is now desperate to repay Stuart's loyalty by helping the Blues end Queensland's six-year dominance at Suncorp Stadium.

"It was disappointing how 2011 went and I didn't come into his (Stuart's) plans with what went on," Carney said.

"Obviously I do owe him a lot and now I've got that opportunity I'll do that. He's been good. Everyone owes Ricky a lot for the faith he's shown.

"He really helped me through camp ahead of game two and I'm sure he'll have his own tips for game three."

Carney had a nervous start to the series in game one but responded brilliantly in the second match to play a key role in the Blues' 16-12 win. It was his line-break that set up Brett Stewart's second try which swung the game in NSW's favour and Carney concedes it was that run that showed him he belonged at this level.

"There were a few little parts in the game but definitely that was a big moment for me, to get through the line," he said. "That definitely gave me a little boost in confidence. Hopefully there's a few more of those next week.

"It was good to get game two and play well, but that's gone now and I've just got to prepare for game three now - that's the new challenge."

Carney has played one Test for Australia, who are 1.28 to win the 2013 Rugby League World Cup, as well as in a grand final for the Roosters in 2010. But he said the series decider was the biggest game of his career.

"If we were to win and stop the six-year series (wins), it would be huge," he said. "Just for everyone that's stuck by NSW, all the fans and all the players, Ricky – it's going to mean the world to a lot of people."
