Lions tour faces more injury problems

- 21 May 2009

Ireland hooker Jerry Flannery looks set to miss the Lions tour to South Africa after chipping a bone in his elbow in a trainining session on Wednesday.

Flannery's replacements are likely to be fellow Irishmen Rory Best or Scot Ross Ford.

Flannery's injury followed news that Ireland flanker Alan Quinlan had lost his appeal against a 12-week ban. Quinlan being replaced by Tom Croft.

Further injury problems come from Wales winger Leigh Halfpenny who will miss the start of the Lions' trip to South Africa while he receives treatment for a thigh injury.
