Leeds Rhinos distracted - Greg Eastwood

- 24 Feb 2010

Leeds Rhinos forward Greg Eastwood has admitted that Sunday’s World Club Challenge against Melbourne Storm has distracted them from their Super League priorities.

The Rhinos, who are evens with Bet365 to win the trophy they last won in 2008 when they
actually defeated the Storm, have had a poor start to the season by their standards losing two out of their four opening matches.

After an unconvincing win over Crusaders RL on the opening night they suffered back-to-back- defeats against Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats and then put in another less than convincing performance to scrape past struggling Salford City Reds last Friday.

Reports in Australia have claimed that the £50,000 winners money has been offered to the whole squad and New Zealand international Eastwood has revealed that has played on the players’ mind as well.

Eastwood said: “"Gary (Hetherington) had a chat to the boys and went through the bonuses, about what the club would give us. It's good money - but we've got to win first. He said they would give all the prize money to the players.

"Brian McClennan (Leeds coach), all he's been talking about since I got here is Melbourne and what we're going to do against them.

"That's good in a way but on the other hand, maybe it's possible to focus too much on Melbourne and let our guard down and we have lost against Wakefield and Castleford."
