Challenge Cup holders Wigan Warriors face a tricky fifth round tie at Featherstone Rovers on Friday evening.

The game at Bigfellas Stadium will see Rovers look to follow up their shock 23-16 fourth round win against Super League Castleford against Shane Wane’s Warriors who occupy second spot in the early table after nine wins and three defeats from their opening 12 matches.

Coach Daryl Powell has guided his Rovers side to second in the Championship and they look in good shape for an historic Cup win against Wigan.

He said: “We need our players to have the games of their careers and I’ve told the players that.

“If we won it would be absolutely amazing. If we pull if off it’ll be the greatest day of all our players’ and coaches’ lives.”

Rovers have been boosted by the news utility player Jonny Hepworth, who has scored 18 tries in 27 appearances since joining them last year, has signed a new two-year deal ahead of the match.

Wigan arrive on the back of last weekend’s thumping 56-12 win at Hull, while they have not lost since a 22-20 home reverse at the hands of local rivals Warrington on March 23.

Wane will welcome back prop Lee Mossop to the squad, but Pat Richards misses out due to a knee injury, while Anthony Gelling returns to the 19 and is likely to partner George Carmont on the left.

Wigan are 11/4 favourites with BetFred to retain the trophy this year, but Wane is expecting a tough clash and has warned his players that the fixture has been selected for television because of the potential for a cup shock.

Veteran former Great Britain winger Gareth Raynor is the man Rovers will look to lead from the front as he will go up against the inexperienced New Zealander Gelling, but we expect the Warriors to have too much quality to slip up in this tie.
