England v Wales Four Nations betting tips

England go into their Four Nations clash with Wales on Saturday as heavy favourites, although it may be their only win of the tournament.

It is highly unlikely that England will slump to defeat against Iestyn Harris’ men at the Leigh Sports Village this weekend, but looking at recent history Steve McNamara’s are more than likely going to suffer heavy defeats at the hands of Australia and New Zealand as the tournament progresses.

England coach McNamara has opted to keep faith with the same 17 that defeated France 32-18 in their warm-up clash last weekend, meaning New Zealand-born star Rangi Chase keeps his place at scrum-half with Kevin Sinfield starting at stand-off.

No changes to the squad means that Brisbane Broncos centre Jack Reed and Wests Tigers forward Chris Heighington retain their spots after impressing on debut in France.

Wales boss Harris has yet to name his team but it is expected that Warrington Wolves stand-off Lee Briers will captain the side. Geraint Davies is a late call-up to the Wales squad after former British and Irish Lions captain Gareth Thomas pulled out after retiring from professional sport.

With the likes of Sam Tomkins, Jamie Peacock, James Roby, James Graham, Chase and Sinfield in England’s starting line-up it is very difficult to look past a comfortable England win and they are worthy of their 1/150 odds-on favourites tag with Bet365, while the Welsh are backed at 20/1 with the draw available at 50/1.

England are capable of scoring tries from anywhere on the park, but whether they can keep switched on in defence is another matter.

Last Friday against France proved that after they conceded two late tries because of sloppy defending. And because of that you may do well to back Wales with a 32 point start on the handicap at 10/11 with Victor Chandler, but if you think England will have learned from their mistakes and will be looking to post a cricket score back them at the same price for -32.

McNamara’s men opened the scoring after just two minutes in France and they can be backed at 2/1 with BetFred to get the game’s opening try, while Wales are available at 3/1 with Paddy Power to put the cat among the pigeons by taking the lead.

If England play to their potential, which is very rare on the International stage, there should be plenty of points so take advantage of BetFred’s 6/4 odds on there being 60 or more points scored at Leigh.
