Australia and New Zealand open up the 2011 Four Nations Series on Friday night in Warrington with the Kangaroos overwhelming favourites to pick up the competition points.

The 2011 Four Nations campaign with feature Australia, New Zealand, England and Wales with the two teams with the most points meeting up in the Final at Elland Road on Saturday November 19.

The opening game will see fierce rivals Australia and New Zealand do battle at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in Warrington with Tim Sheens’ Kangaroos determined to win back the trophy from defending champions New Zealand.

These two recently met in a one-off Test back in Australia with Sheens’ men running out comfortable 42-6 winners in Newcastle, but it will be a whole different kettle of fish in the Four Nations.

Kiwis boss Stephen Kearney has opted to call-up Wigan Warriors scrum-half or hooker Thomas Leuluai after he was not selected for the friendly.

Leuluai will start from the bench and will be introduced into the action as a replacement for hooker Issac Luke, while Ben Matulino will start at prop in place of Russell Packer, who is suspended following an off-the-ball challenge on Darren Lockyer in the one-off Test.

Lockyer, who is playing in his final set of matches before retiring, will captain the Kangaroos and will partner Jonathan Thurston in the halves, while Sheens believes it is too soon for Greg Inglis to return from injury and he will keep with Willie Tonga and Chris Lawrence in the centres.

The Aussies, who last won the tournament in 2009, are overwhelming odds-on favourites to put the Kiwis to the sword on Friday and can be backed at 1/7 with Bet365, while New Zealand are on offer at 9/2 with the draw available at 33/1.

On recent form it is hard to look past an Australia win, but don’t expect the kind of rout witnessed in their last encounter. So backing New Zealand with a 16 point start on the handicap may be worth the punt at 10/11, although if you fancy another Kangaroo rout then back them -16 at the same price with BetFred.

There will be plenty of top quality players on show this Friday night with a number of them all capable of grabbing the opening try of the tournament. Darius Boyd (9/1 Stan James), Akuila Uate (10/1) and Darren Lockyer (20/1) all look good with ball in hand for the Aussies, while Kalifa Faifai Loa (12/1 Paddy Power), Jason Nightingale (12/1) and Thomas Leuluai all look dangerous for the Kiwis.

When the Aussies and Kiwis collide there are always plenty of points, whether it is a landslide win or a close but high scoring encounter, so why not take advantage of BetFred’s offer of 11/8 that there will be more than 51 points scored.
