However, a courageous, often ragged performance, saw the Red Rose return south of the border as 13-6 victors.That doesn't mean bettors are hurrying to back a successive Six Nations title for England. Far from it, their odds are now out to 6.0 (Betfair) in the outright winner market. France, who blew Italy away 30-12 in Paris, are in to 2.44 and 4.5 for a Grand Slam.Stuart Lancaster said he was "chuffed" with England's first victory at Murrayfield for eight years. Owen Farrell kicked two penalties and he converted after Charlie Hodgson had scored the crucial charge-down try at the start of the second-half.Scotland's problem in the last year has been an inability to score tries and a tendency to concede important ones. So it proved on Saturday: the homes side had plenty of chances to score but misplaced passes and indecisiveness in defence left them defeated by the auld enemy yet again and Wooden Spoon odds of 3.15 look increasingly appealing.England will be buoyed by the result but they will have plenty to consider and Lancaster won't allow any complacency to creep in ahead of next weekend's trip to Italy.
