Rugby World Cup top points scorer betting - Dan Carter hot favourite

The Rugby World Cup kicks off on Friday September 9 and you can bet on who will be the leading points scorer in the tournament.

Twenty of the best teams will compete in New Zealand over the next month and a half with some of the most lethal finishers and goal kickers the world has ever seen - but the main question is whether or not they will freeze on the big stage.

All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter is the bookies favourite to pick up the most points and with his country the overwhelming favourites to win the competition backing Carter might not be a bad option.

The 29-year-old fly-half is prolific with the boot and since making his international debut in 2003 the Canterbury star has managed to collect 1,229 points, scoring 29 tries in that total, and he can be backed at 7/4 with BetFred to lead the way in 2011.

Most of the front runners to be the tournaments leading points scprer are also goal kickers and next in line are South Africa’s Morne Steyn (4/1), Australia’s James O’Connor (12/1), Frenchman Dimitri Yachvili (10/1) and England’s own points machine Jonny Wilkinson (12/1).

Rugby World Cup Leading Points Scorer with BetFred:

Dan Carter - 7/4
Morne Steyn - 4/1
Dimitri Yachvili - 10/1
James O’Connor - 12/1
Jonny Wilkinson - 12/1
Quade Cooper - 14/1
Jonathan Sexton - 16/1
Morgan Parra - 16/1
Toby Flood - 16/1
James Hook - 25/1
Colin Slade - 25/1
