Mick Channon is hoping that Youmzain can bag back to back victories in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on Sunday.

The Coronation Cup second has enjoyed a career full of near-misses and agonizing defeats in top company, and his only Group 1 victory to date is in the Saint-Cloud showpiece.

Since his victory in the race twelve months ago, he has finished third in the King George, second to wonder filly Zarkava in the Arc and was beaten by a nose at Epsom at the beginning of the month.

Mick Channon is hopeful that he can get another deserved Group 1 victory on Sunday.  He said, "he seems in good form and we're heading out there again on Sunday to give it our best shot. He's in great heart and came out of the Epsom race well so that's all that matters. He was beaten a nose but that's him and that's the way he races."

The trainer continued: "It's frustrating but he's very consistent and to be fair he only runs in Group Ones and he doesn't disappoint us. He's been beaten by some of the best horses we've probably seen in the last decade.

"Christophe is a top-class jockey and from what I can gather he has been ringing everyone to get the ride so I'm sure he'll do the job. It's a competitive race again with a lot of good horses and we've stuck another horse in so hopefully we can make it a good pace.

"There is always a bit of a hard luck story somewhere along the line with Youmzain but Soumillon ought to know the place as he has been round there a few times! The horse has got the same plan this year as he had last year so he'll go to Saint-Cloud, the King George and then the Arc."

Youmzain is currently priced up at 7/1 for the King George (William Hill) and is a best priced 20/1 (Bet365) to gain revenge and finally get his nose in front in this year’s L’Arc de Triomphe.
