It's 2012 Dante Stakes day at York and all eyes will be on the Knavesmire as a number of Derby hopefuls put their Classic credentials on the line.

Seen as a trial to the most prestigious of the five classics, Thursday’s Dante Stakes will prove an excellent guide as to whether there is credible opposition to the hot Derby favourite Camelot. 

The Godolphin trained Mandaean, although lightly raced, is sure to be a leading contender and from 8.30am tomorrow, William Hill are going a sensational 4/1.

The colt is unbeaten in both of his starts to date and trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni explained: "He has done well and is ready to go. Hopefully, this run can get him ready for the Derby if he is good enough," 

"I don't really know how good he is yet. He won his Group One as a two-year-old so he is a nice horse and he is in good form.

"I think the ground will be fine for him. It was very soft when he won his Group One, but I think good ground might be even better for him."
