The King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes runner-up had been in line to represent Sir Michael Stoute, in a bid to lower the colours of dual-Classic winning superstar Sea The Stars. However, Tartan Bearer has been found to be lame, meaning that there will be just three horses competing against the Coral Eclipse winner. Peter Reynolds, racing manager for Tartan Bearer's owners Ballymacoll Stud, confirmed the Spectrum colt as a non-runner saying: "I can confirm that Tartan Bearer will miss the Juddmonte at York." All three horses running against Sea The Stars will represent Aidan O’Brien and two of them have been dismissed as pacemakers. It is the Irish 2000 Guineas and St James’ Palace Stakes winner, Mastercraftsman who is the main candidate for the Ballydoyle operation. Victor Chandler make Sea The Stars - winner of the 2000 Guineas, Derby and Eclipse - the 1-3 favourite, with Irish 2000 Guineas and St James's Palace hero Mastercraftsman a 2-1 chance.
