Solwhit trimmed for Cheltenham after December Hurdle

Solwhit’s success over Sublimity in the December Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown saw his Champion Hurdle odds cut a point by Sky Bet into 5/1 from 6s, with the runner-up trimmed into 20/1 from 25s.

It meant that the winner bounced back to form after finishing behind Go Native and Sublimity in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle and it will be interesting to see where the star heads next.

Meanwhile, What A Friend underlined his long term Gold Cup potential with victory in the rescheduled Lexus Chase at Leopardstown on Tuesday.
 
Paul Nicholls’ chaser earned a 20/1 quote from Sky Bet for chasing’s blue riband after leading home a 1-2 for the British raiders with the Nicky Richards-trained Money Trix a staying on second.
 
Joncol did best of the Irish in third and remains a 25/1 shot for Gold Cup glory, while fourth placed Notre Pere is 33s with Sky Bet having made amends for his poor run behind Kauto Star at Haydock.
 
Matt Doyle of Sky Bet said: ‘Although it still remains very much the Kauto Star and Denman show, stablemate What A Friend enters Gold Cup reckoning as a worthy third string for his powerful yard.’
 
Last season’s RSA Chase winner Cooldine was the disappointment of the Grade 1 contest finishing down the field and had his Gold Cup odds pushed out from 10s to 16/1 by Sky Bet.

At Newbury, the dress rehearsal for the World Hurdle showcased the dominance of gritty Long Walk winner Big Buck’s, who is now 4/7 from 10/11 to defend his staying crown at Cheltenham next March. 
 
The clash with third home Diamond Harry (8/1 from 5s) failed to materialise and runner-up Karabak (7/1 from 12s) replaces Nick Williams’ charge as second favourite in the World Hurdle betting.
