Only eight horses have been declared for the Betfred The Bonus King Bingo Handicap and that grand old stager Judge ‘N Jury looks set to make a winning seasonal reappearance.

Ron Harris’ veteran has been a money-spinning sprinter down the years and he ended 2011 in fine form, winning at Newmarket and turning in a series of creditable efforts throughout the autumn.

The chestnut gelding ended the campaign finishing fourth of 20 at Doncaster when just collared close home, beaten only around half a length by winner Steps.

That rival re-opposes here and they are weighted to finish very close together again, with Steps arguably having around 1lb in hand on the form book.

However, Judge ‘n Jury this time has the services in the saddle of promising 7lb claimer Darren Egan, whose allowance brings his mount’s weight down to a handy 8st 8lbs.

Moreover, the eight-year-old will love the soft ground he will encounter on the Sussex downs as he is never better than when the mud is flying.

With eight runners, this is a perfect race for each-way betting and the open nature of the contest should mean there is some value to be had.

Judge ‘n Jury has finished in the frame on his seasonal bow in three of the five seasons in which he has raced so far and, with there appearing to be no lessening of his powers, he looks a good bet to go close again this time.
