Newcastle’s Fighting Fifth Hurdle card has been abandoned after heavy snowfall ahead of Saturday’s meeting.

Course officials had admitted that the fixture was in jeopardy of being cancelled on Thursday morning and with Gosforth Park struggling with seven inches of snow and with a poor forecast in store, clerk of the course James Armstrong has been forced to cancel the action.

The British Horseracing Authority will now look to move the Fighting Fifth Hurdle to another racecourse and there is sure to be plenty of options available.

British Horseracing Authority Head of Communications Paul Struthers tweeted that they would be doing all they could to move Binocular’s clash with Peddlers Cross to another venue, explaining: "Very tough for them on probably their 3rd/4th biggest day of year. Trying to save/replace in some shape or form. Not @ Newb."

The final words suggest that the race will not be heading to Newbury’s Hennessy Gold Cup card on Saturday.
