Sariska to swerve King George and head for Yorkshire Oaks

Dual-Oaks winning heroine, Sariska, will not head to the King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on Saturday week.

After an emphatic victory in the Irish Oaks on Sunday, there had been rumours that the filly would now take on the colts in the Group 1 at Ascot.  However, the speculation was unfounded and Michael Bell’s superstar remains on course for a tilt at the Yorkshire Oaks at the Knavesmire on August 20.

Hugo Lascelles, racing advisor to Lady Bamford, the owner of Sariska said: "That (King George) would be just a rumour - it's not the plan at all. She is going for the Yorkshire Oaks."

Such was the ease in which Sariska completed the task at the Curragh on Sunday, many people have described the victory as the most simple since Montjeu’s beating of Fantastic Light in the King George in 2000.  So simple was jockey Jamie Spencer’s task, he even allowed himself the time to give Fran Berry a wave as he cruised past the strongly driven runner-up Roses For The Lady.

"That's what a lot of people have been saying to me today," Hugo Lascelles continued.

"She was quite simply marvellous. She got back from Ireland on the plane today and she seems to be fine."

Bookmakers have been equally impressed by the exploits of the dual-Classic winner and have adjusted her odds for L’Arc De Triomphe accordingly.  She is currently a best-priced 8/1 with William Hill for October’s showpiece at Longchamp.
