Radobank Champion Hurdle Tips

Friday's Radobank Champion Hurdle (5.30) is both fascinating and complex in equal measure as so many of the runners have questions surrounding them at present.

Let's start with Hurricane Fly, Paddy Power's 3/1 favourite. Willie Mullins' six-year-old is just about the best of these having slammed Go Native on several occasions and we know he likes the track as he has won twice here, including at the corresponding meeting 12 month's ago. However, this is his first run back since being beaten here in November on heavy ground by Solwhit and, while he's gone well fresh in the past, he won't be anywhere near peak fitness.

Dunguib's bubble was well and truly burst in the Supreme Novices' and he's now up against the big boys in an attempt to become only the second novice to win the race after Davenport Milenium in 2002. Many people thought he was given a poor ride at Cheltenham around the outside of the field, but I thought he was beaten fair and square and you'd have to be brave to back him at 100/30 (William Hill).

Last year's one-two Solwhit (9/2 Skybet) and Punjabi (13/2 William Hill) were beaten a long way at Cheltenham and have a lot to prove here. Of the pair, I'd rather be on Punjabi as he will be better suited by the drying ground, although it remains to be seen whether a recent breathing operation has done the trick.

It might sound like I'm sitting on the fence here and you'd be right, although I've a sneaky feeling VOLER LA VEDETTE is going to run a big race under her new pilot Tony McCoy. Colm Murphy's mare didn't appear to get home over 2m4f in the David Nicholson but still finished second to Quevega, and the winner gave the form a nice boost when winning impressively here on Thursday. Back over 2m, I think she's very interesting indeed and her price of 9/1 (bet365) big enough to warrant a small investment.

Of the rest, RONALDO DES MOTTES is a fresher horse than most and hails from the massively in-form David Pipe stable. He could easily outrun his odds and at 16/1 (Blue Square) is worthy of each-way support.

Recommended Bets:

Voler La Vedette 1pt @ 9/1 bet365
Ronaldo Des Mottes 0.5pt each-way @ 16/1 Blue Square
