Many horseracing fans see the race as being the French equivalent to the Investec Derby at Epsom and many will remember the runway victory of Montmarte in the 12f race last year. Montmartre was immediately installed as favourite for L’Arc de Triomphe after the race, only to miss it due to injury. Aidan O’Brien will typically approach the race mob-handed and will take four very interesting runners to Paris. Lingfield Derby Trial winner Age Of Aquarius will be joined by this year’s Dante first and second, Black Bear Island and Freemantle and the list will be completed by recent Gowran park winner Hail Caesar. All will head to the race with a decent chance, but they will have to be on the top of their game when they tackle Alain de Royer-Dupre’s Beheshtam. Already as low as 12/1 for this year’s Arc, he will lead a very strong home challenge. In a very classy eight-runner field, Godolphin will also saddle the Italian Derby winner, Mastery, Elie Lellouches saddles Wajir, and superstar trainer Andre Fabre will saddle Cavalryman. There is currently no market available for the race; however it is expected that Beheshtam will start a warm favourite.
