It has been confirmed that Mastercraftsman will head to Dundalk on Friday night, to contest the Diamond Stakes ahead of a possible tilt at the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November.

Aidan O’Brien’s four-time Group 1 winning hero has already landed the Irish 2000 Guineas and the St James’ Palace Stakes this season and he will use the race as a warm up ahead of the big night at Santa Anita next month.

Over one mile and three furlongs, the Group 3 test should be plain sailing for Mastercraftsman, but only if he handles the surface.

O’Brien explained: "Mastercraftsman is going to Dundalk to see how he handles the surface with a view to him running in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

"We'll probably run two others in the Dundalk race, Man Of Iron and Augustusthestrong."

If Mastercraftsman does get the green light for the Breeders' Cup Classic, he will be joined by his QEII-winning stablemate Rip Van Winkle, as part of a two-pronged assault on the prestigious race.

Rip Van Winkle is the favoured of the two O’Brien runners, if Betfair if anything to go by.  The son of Galileo is currently trading at 4.8 while Mastercraftsman is a 14.5 chance.
