As expected, Mastercraftsman has been ruled out of the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at Ascot on Saturday.

Aidan O'Brien surprised many when he left his St James's Palace Stakes winner in the race in the week, but he was quick to explain that it was only a precaution should Rip Van Winkle have missed the race with an injury that has niggled him ever since his Sussex Stakes win.

Mastercraftsman was left out of the Ascot showpiece on Friday evening.

Meanwhile, one of the four-time Group 1 winner’s stablemates, You’ll Be Mine, is certain to travel to Ascot as she takes on the Meon Valley Stud Fillies' Mile on the same day.

The filly has got her trainer and jockey excited and Johnny Murtagh feels the impeccably-bred daughter of Kingmambo has everything in place to make a successful leap into Group One company.

"She won her maiden and it's a big step up but we think she's got a good chance," said Murtagh.

"She's well-bred and we like her."
