The 2007 and 2009 Gold Cup winner has been forced to wait for his date with destiny after the race was frozen off on Boxing Day and Paul Nicholls’ stable star was left facing a three-week delay. However, owner Clive Smith does not believe the postponement of the famous race will have any negative effects on the multiple Grade One winner. "I'm looking forward to it but he has some stiff opposition. However we know he's in good shape and Paul has been able to keep him ticking over and we're very hopeful," Smith explained. "I know Nicky Henderson said of Long Run they had him spot on for the original day and then you have to wait another couple of weeks and it's the same for every horse in the race. However I'm sure the trainers will have the horses right on the day. "To win five would be a fantastic record and would suit his standing in the world of National Hunt racing. It would be a true statement about him". Smith also explained that if all is well after his trip to Kempton, Kauto Star will be heading for another tilt at the Gold Cup at Cheltenham in March. "Paul is very pleased with him, he's showing no signs of ageing and Clifford Baker who rides him every day says he's as good as ever so hopefully he can go and give another good account of himself in the totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup," Smith continued.
