Aidan O’Brien has revealed his jockey bookings for the forthcoming Derby, and despite recent rumours, it seems Johnny Murtagh will ride 2000 Guineas fourth Rip Van Winkle in the Epsom event.

William Hill responded by immediately slashing the odds of the son of Galileo to 4-1 from 11-2, leaving Black Bear Island – to be ridden by champion jockey Ryan Moore- unchanged at 8-1. Richard Hughes will be aboard 14-1 chance Masterofthehorse, with Pat Smullen on Lingfield Derby Trial winner Age of Aquarius (25-1), and Colm O’Donaghue on Chester winner Golden Sword (33-1).

Seamus Heffernan will pilot Fame and Glory – who had been joint 3-1 favourite with Sea the Stars- and has now been eased to 7-2 second-favourite on the back of the news from Ballydoyle.

"Rip Van Winkle is by far our biggest loser in the ante-post book, so we’re taking no chances now that Johnny has given him his seal of approval. Punters waded into his price as soon as there was a suggestion that Mr Murtagh was going to be aboard, and now it’s been confirmed he will be even trendier with backers."
