The only horse ever sired by the great George Washington will be trained by Richard Hannon.
The horse was bought for 320,000 guineas by Ross Doyle, on behalf of Julie Wood, at Wednesday’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale at Newmarket and Hannon will be delighted to have the chance to train such a filly.
Doyle said: "She's a lovely filly, gorgeous and lovely looking.
"I'm sure the vendor doesn't want to hear this, but I thought she'd make a little bit more.
"She's the sort of filly we like - she's got a lot of substance to her - and she'll go into training with Richard Hannon.
"George Washington was a freak and I hope she can be a freak like him.
"She'll go straight to Richard Hannon's yard now and she'll be in very good hands.
"She seems very laid-back and is going to a good environment and a very lucky owner."
New owner Julie Wood has been associated with Richard Hannon for the last ten years, having 22 horses in training with the East Everleigh operation and she said: "The most I've ever spent on a horse was about 130,000 guineas and I expected her (the George Washington filly) to go for more.
"She's a very nice filly. She's a one-off - there's no other horse like her - and I was going to be with her (in the bidding) all of the way.
"She's always been in the back of my mind as she's such a special filly.
"I hope she can come out next year and win some nice races, and maybe even pick up a few more sales races."
The trainer's son and assistant, Richard Hannon jnr, explained how delighted he and his father are at the prospect of training her: "We don't look at this type of horse very often, if at all.
"It's nice for Julie, who started off with one horse for 2,000 guineas and has had massive success with horses who weren't massively expensive.
"We've stepped it up a little bit with a filly that is totally unique.
"I didn't think we'd get her - she represents an awful lot of value."
