Irish dominate Derby odds

The Derby, regarded as the most prestigious flat race in the world, takes place on Saturday and Sky Bet are offering 6/1 for a British-trained winner of the Classic.

None of the five remaining British entries trades at shorter than 20/1 in outright Epsom Derby betting which is dominated by the Irish, who are 1-12 to take the classic back to Ireland.

Aidan O’Brien, who last won the Derby seven years ago with High Chaparral, has six of the 13-strong entries and is 1/2 to train the winner or 6-4 not to do so.

O’Brien described as 'fanciful' his chances of saddling the 1-2-3 in the Derby but that has not stopped punters steaming in and he is 5/1 from 7s to achieve the notable feat.

Meanwhile, Sky Bet report two significant moves in its ‘Aidan O’Brien Derby’ market with Fame And Glory out to 7/4 from 5/4 to emerge as the first Ballydoyle finisher with Rip Van Winkle the big mover into 2/1 from 3s following confirmation he is the choice of stable jockey Johnny Murtagh.

The Irish stranglehold on the race has also led to the Harrogate-based bookmaker pricing up an exclusive ‘English Derby’ and Kite Wood, ironically trained by Godolphin, has seen solid support into 2/1 after opening up an 11/4 favourite.

Sky Bet are non-runner no bet on both the Derby and the Oaks
