2000 Guineas and St James’ Palace Stakes runner up, Delegator, has been purchased by Godolphin.
Agonizingly close to winning a Group 1 on two occasions now, the three-year-old has been snapped up by Sheikh Mohammed for an undisclosed fee, just days after the same owner bought Chevely Park Stud’s Evasive.
It is believed that Godolphin fought off a lot of competition to acquire the son of Dansili, but it is Saeed Bin Suroor’s Nermarket stable that the horse will take up residence.
After being trained by Brian Meehan and owned by breeder Poilin Good, the racing manager to Godolphin, Simon Crisford, said of the new purchase: "Delegator is top class and were are very excited to have bought him. There are no plans at the moment but we will look forward to seeing him racing later in the season and next year as well."
Delegator holds entries in both the Darley July Cup at Newmarket next week and the BGC Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, but it is obvious that there are no firm plans in place.
Nonetheless, he remains in the market for the Darley July Cup, trading on Betfair at 42.0.
