Many punters believed they saw the 2010 Investec Derby winner when Coordinated Cut landed the crownhotel-bawtry.com EBF Maiden Stakes at Doncaster on Thursday.

The Peter Chapple-Hyam-trained and Kieren Fallon-ridden son of Montjeu entered the reckoning for next year’s top honours with the impressive victory and though he ran very green, he held off a string of good horses to land his odds of 10/11.

After being a niggled a long way from home, he touched as big as 4/1 in running.  However, running in the colours of Saturday’s St Leger fancy Monitor Closely, the horse prevailed and beat fellow debutant Tactician by a length and a quarter.

Paddy Power went 16-1 (from 20s) for the 2010 Classic, while Victor Chandler remain unchanged at 20s on the horse winning at Epsom.

Winning jockey Fallon said: "I think I just got to the front too soon, he's pricked his ears and I just had to give him a kick and keep him up to it because he was watching the crowd.

"I think he'll go on from here.

"He's got the scope (for the Derby), he's a lovely, big, well-bred horse.

"He's a Montjeu, and I love riding them. They give you a great feel and they stay and they've got stamina."
