Roger Charlton has set his filly Clowance the unenviable task of having to try and stop Aidan O’Brien’s record-breaking superstar-stayer Yeats in Saturday's Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh.

The trainer has declared his charge for Thursday's DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster but she would need rain to line up and it is much more likely that she will head to the Curragh.

"Unless we get a cloud burst, it looks like there won't be rain at Doncaster. In that case she will go to the Irish Leger on Saturday," Charlton explained.

"At the moment the ground at the Curragh is nearly heavy but it's due to stop raining and it could be good to soft by the weekend. We need soft ground and hopefully it will still be."

The filly will be making her return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

"She has had had a series of little irritating things go wrong. It's now 14 or 15 months since she last ran and she will definitely need a race but it will be nice to get her back," the trainer explained.

"There are some nice staying races in the autumn and she is a lovely, big filly and i would think she is 90 per cent there now."

Yeats can be backed on the exchanges (Betfair) at 1.91 to win the Irish Classic, while Clowance is available at 26.00.
