Chester Vase 2012 - Andrew Balding tips big run from Minimise Risk

Minimise Risk is the outsider of five for the MBNA Chester Vase, but trainer Andrew Balding is confident of a big run from his Epsom Derby entry.

The son of Galileo, who cost 410,000 guineas as a yearling, is completely unexposed having finished second in a Doncaster maiden on his debut before scoring at Newbury.

Balding said of his colt who is a best-priced 50/1 for the Derby with Paddy Power: “He has only had two runs but is progressing along the right lines – he’s a smashing horse.

“He showed he handles pretty desperate conditions at Newbury last time and would be suited by better ground, but at least he has handled it before.

“He should have no problem with the mile and a half and I think the track should suit him as well.

“I’m very happy with his wellbeing. There are only five runners but it looks a wide open race.”

The two Irish raiders are likely to dispute favouritism with John Oxx saddling Call To Battle and in-form Aidan O’Brien sending over David Livingston.

Oxx said of his representative: “He ran a nice race on his comeback and we are anxious to step him up to a mile and a half.

“He looks fairly versatile in terms of the ground. Obviously he will need to be as it looks testing enough, but we think he likes the soft.

“There are some promising types in the race. David Livingston is a good performer with form on soft ground so it will be an interesting test for him.”
