Black Caviar makes her British debut in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.
Britain’s bookmakers are braced for an Aussie invasion tomorrow, when the pride of Australian sport, the unbeaten racehorse Black Caviar, lines up at Royal Ascot.
The 6-year-old mare has won all 21 of her races Down Under, and has travelled across the globe to put her unbeaten record to the test in the Group One Diamond Jubilee Stakes, a sprint race over six furlongs.
“Black Caviar is nothing short of a sporting phenomenon in Australia, having won all 21 races in her career so far, a winning run that began in April 2009 and that has seen her win over £3.6 million in prize money. Now she has taken up the biggest challenge of her life, and travelled here to the UK, where she will take on 14 rivals at Royal Ascot. She is already the 1-4 favourite to win the Diamond Jubilee Stakes, but we expect those odds to shorten further, as 1-4 would be regarded as too big by Australian punters, who are more used to backing her at 1-20 or 1-25,” said Coral’s David Stevens.
“Although the sporting rivalry between the two countries is fierce, Black Caviar is one star from Down Under who British race fans will also be supporting, and the mare will be the first name written on thosands of betting slips this weekend, and as a result, if she makes it a perfect 22 from 22, she will be crowned the Queen of racing in front of Her Majesty,” added Stevens.
Such is Black Caviar’s expected dominance over her rivals,
Coral are betting on how far she will win by, and go 4-5 that the winning distance is 3 lengths or more.
“She may have travelled across the world, to race on a completely new track, against different rivals, but we can only see one outcome, and as far as we’re concerned, it’s not if she wins, but by how far,” said Stevens.
