An intriguing thing happened at Down Royal just after Bonfire Night - and it could have huge repercussions in the Cheltenham ante-post markets

So what happened at Down Royal on November 6?

Go Native cemented himself as the 7.4 joint second favourite for the Champion Hurdle when winning at Kempton yesterday, following his stylish victory in the Fighting Fifth.

Effective at Cheltenham, having won the Supreme Novices' Hurdle back in March, he is clearly a major Festival player.

But those with fancy prices about Voler La Vedette for the Champion - she has been matched as high as 100.0 on Betfair, and is now trading at just 19.0 - can be forgiven for getting a touch excited.

Because her performance at Down Royal on November 6 saw her beat a certain Go Native pointless by 13 lengths.

Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "The Champion Hurdle is clearly very open, but Go Native's win yesterday was a further pointer to the claims of Voler La Vedette.

"If she wins the Festival Hurdle at Leopardstown on Tuesday and is committed to the Champion thereafter, she could even be challenging Zaynar for favouritism."
