The race is everything a Group One should be and with a number of horses in with a shout of landing the spoils, the bookies look like they are willing to take a chance on a number of the sprinters at the head of the betting.

So while the odds compilers continue to scratch their heads, form students will have been relentlessly looking to find the winner and punters could do a lot worse than afford DREAM AHEAD (11/2, William Hill) another chance after his flop in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville last month.

The selection was officially rated alongside the mighty Frankel after a sensational juvenile career that saw him bag two Group One victories in the Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes.  With the world seemingly at his feet, he appeared to be struggling over a mile earlier this season before he bounced back to form with an emphatic success in the July Cup over 6f.

That performance was one of the most impressive sprinting performances of the season and the colt looked to be a top-class sprinter in the making.  After travelling with supreme ease under the hands of Hayley Turner, Dream Ahead was steered to the head of affairs without the whip ever being called upon and the winning margin did not justify the authority with which the superstar landed the race.

Before the Group One showpiece, the firm ground at Newmarket had been a genuine worry for connections and punters but the conditions did not seem to faze the winner and thoughts that Dream Ahead needs soft going to be at his best were seemingly dismissed after his sensational victory.

Unbeaten over 6f, Dream Ahead stepped up to 7f for the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville and worryingly for his followers he delivered a hugely disappointing display.  It was clear early on in France that he was not going to repeat the turn of foot he showed at Newmarket and the even-money favourite could only manage seventh behind Moonlight Cloud.

The performance appeared to mystify Simcock and despite racing slightly freely, there didn’t appear to be any genuine excuses for the British raider. That result looks too bad to be true and racing fans should give him another chance to prove he is this season’s champion sprinter.

The 11/2 with William Hill looks far too big for a horse of his ability and he can bounce back to form and hold off the likes of Hoof It and Bated Breath in a spellbinding renewal of Haydock’s flagship race.

While Dream Ahead looks like the best bet in the feature race, KING TORUS (9/2, William Hill) looks like he could be the best bet of the day in the Superior Mile (2.00 Haydock) and Richard Hannon’s colt can swoop and get punters off to a winning start on Merseyside.

A dual-Group Two winner as a juvenile, King Torus is sure to come on from his fourth at York last time out and he could be the class act in a wide open race.

Nick Wilby's selections:

2.00 Haydock - King Torus (9/2, William Hill)
3.35 Haydock - Dream Ahead (11/2, William Hill)

£10 double at William Hill pays £357.50
