Willie Haggas’ Aqlaam is set to lead a strong British contingent, having beaten everything home bar the outstanding Goldikova in the Prix Jacques le Marois, and he will now seek to go one place better in France’s second big mile race of the calendar. Haggas is upbeat about his horse’s chances, but admitted he would have second thoughts about Aqlaam if the ground came up soft. He said: "He had a blow this morning and we are planning to run. However, I wouldn't be keen to run if the ground came up soft." Meanwhile quadruple Group 1 winning superstar Mastercraftsman is set to go to post, after Aidan O’Brien confirmed him for the race on Wednesday. He will also be looking to go one better after finishing second behind Sea The Stars at York last time out. Longchamp clerk of the course Christian Delporte is confident that there will be good ground on Sunday, which will come as a relief to many of the other entries. Including Dermot Weld’s Group 3 hat-trick hero, Famous Name and Marois third and eighth Virtual and Gladiatorus. Balthazaar’s Gift could also head for the race while French 1000 Guineas winner Elusive Wave will spearhead the home team. Mastercraftsman remains as short as 15.5 on Betfair to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic after his Prix du Moulin mission.
