Bettingpro tipster Ross Aylward nominates 10 horses to follow on the all-weather in the coming weeks.
BROOKLANDS BAY (Trainer: John Weymes)
Was easy to back (15/2 to 10/1) on his handicap debut over an extended 9f at Wolverhampton (January 4th) but ran a stormer, running on at the death to finish just a head behind the more experienced Danger Mulally, with two and half lengths back to the third. As that was only his second run - he was a surprise winner on his debut back in October - he should be able to improve again and find a handicap or two this winter.
Advice: Back on his next three starts.
ABHAR (Trainer: John Best)
Ran his best race to date last time out over 7f at Lingfield (January 2nd), only finding the useful Tiradito too good. After being slow into his stride on his previous start, he got away much quicker this time and is getting better with experience. He should have no trouble winning a maiden but his shrewd trainer now has the option of handicaps and that route should prove more fruitful.
Advice: Back on his handicap debut.
REVE DE NUIT (Trainer Alan McCabe)
Had been showing good form at home before winning on his debut at Southwell (January 1st) with the field well strung out behind. The form doesn't amount to much and the time was well below standard - the track has been riding very slow during the current cold spell, which may account for that - but he looks the type to defy a penalty and could go on to prove a useful type on the sand.
Advice: Back on his next three starts.
OCEANS EDGE (Trainer: Jim Boyle)
Made a pleasing start to his career in a 7f maiden at Lingfield (January 2nd), running on well to be fourth of eight runners after a slow start. With that run under his belt, he will be a lot sharper next time and his in-form trainer will no doubt be placing him to advantage before too long, most likely in handicaps.
Advice: Back on his next three starts in handicaps.
DIRAR (Trainer Gordon Elliott)
Has been raised 7lb for winning a class 2 handicap by five lengths at Wolverhampton last time (11th December) but looks the type to go on improving. He wasn't disgraced behind Darley Sun in the Cesarewitch so he's going to be seen to best advantage over 1m4f+ and is capable of winning a decent race on the sand this winter.
Advice: Back on his next start, providing it's over 1m4f+
RAVI RIVER (Trainer: David Evans)
Ran no sort of race at Southwell on January 10th, but that was his first experience of Fibresand and he's worth another chance back on Polytrack. He's already won three times on that surface for a different trainer, all over 7f, and is still relatively unexposed over 1m, which he seems to want these days.
Advice: Back on his next three starts over 1m+.
PRITI FABULOUS (Alan McCabe)
Win-less since scoring twice (7f and 1m) for William Haggas in 2008 but that may be about to change. Now with Alan McCabe, who trains near Southwell and does with his all-weather string, the filly has been campaigned over 5f, the latest coming at Kempton (30th December). Not surprisingly, she has found that trip way too short each time, but her handicap mark has slipped as a result and I'm expecting the money to go down when she's eventually upped to a more suitable trip
Advice: Back when camapigned over 7f+
ISTIQDAAM (Mick Easterby)
The form of his Wolverhampton win on December 11th has been working out well, with three subsequent winners coming out of that race, and he wasn't disgraced in a better race at Kempton over 1m on his next start. The distance of that race may have stretched his stamina to the limit, so a return to 7f should see this gelding back in the winner's enclosure.
Advice: Back on next start if dropped back to 7f.
SEEK THE FAIR LAND (Jim Boyle)
Now four from 12 on the all-weather, the latest win coming at Kempton on 13th December when beating Imprimis Tagula in record time. No disgrace in his short head defeat in his only run since, again at Kempton, and he has plenty of scope for further improvement. His canny trainer knows the winter programme inside out and is aiming him at the Super Seven Series.
Advice: Back for the rest of the all-weather season (entered Lingfield, January 13th).
NACHO LIBRE (Mick Easterby)
Was rated as high as 101 when contesting Listed races on turf 18 months ago and, while nowhere near that level now, he has plenty of scope off a mark in the 60's after just five starts on the all-weather. Mainly campaigned over 6f, he showed his versatility when winning over 7f at Kempton last time (3rd January) and is sure to win more races.
Advice: Back for the rest of the all-weather season
