Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is the subject of a Ladbrokes money back offer for Sunday’s match against Wigan Athletic.

Torres has endured a torrid time since making a mega-money move from Liverpool, but in the second half of last season he showed flashes of the striker that once had defenders quaking in their boots.

Torres will now be looking to start the 2012/13 Premier League season on a high, and Ladbrokes will refund losing first goalscorer bets if the Spain international striker scores the first or last goal in Sunday’s game at the DW Stadium.

Torres can be backed at 7/2 to open the scoring in this match, with fellow striker Daniel Sturridge available at 9/2. Frank Lampard and Juan Manuel Mata can both be backed at odds of 7/1, while summer signing Eden Hazard is 8/1 to mark his competitive debut by netting the opening goal.

Wigan battled against relegation for much of last season and it looks like nothing will change this time around. However, a shock opening day result would certainly give Latics supporters plenty of confidence and striker Arouna Kone can be backed at 8/1 to break the deadlock against the European champions.

Unsurprisingly, Chelsea are 8/15 favourites to enjoy an opening day victory, with a shock win for Wigan Athletic priced at 11/2. The draw would be considered an upset also, and that can be backed at 14/5.
