Conservatives strong favourites to win election

Following defence secretary Bob Ainsworth’s slip yesterday in informing Sky News that the general election is to be held on May 6th, WilliamHill have cut the odds on the country going to the polls on that date from 1/2 to 1/6.

Ainsworth said in an interview:

"I think the electorate will rue the day if they wind up with a Conservative government in charge of this country after the 6th of May."

Hills are also giving odds of 7/2 that the election is held on any day other than May 6th.

The firm’s spokesman Graham Sharpe told bettingpro:

"Unless this was a very cunning double bluff, Mr Ainsworth appears to have given the game away and although we aeady had May 6 as a warm favourite to be the date of the Election we now make it hot favourite,"

Labour are 10/1 to win the election, with the Conservatives 2/5 favourites. A hung Parliament is a 5/2 shot.
