Mitt Romney appears to be seeing off his rivals for the Republican Presidential nomination and he is now 1/ 2 favourite with William Hill to take on Barack Obama in the Presidential race.

These odds are the shortest odds Romney has been, and William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe told Bettingpro.com: “The Bachmanns, Christies, Perrys and Palins have all threatened to turn themselves into serious contenders, only to lose momentum or pull out of the race.

“Romney has kept on keeping on and despite the latest surge into prominence by Herman Cain, seems set to see off all of his rivals.”

Barack Obama is now being quoted at even money to win the 2012 Presidential race by William Hill – the longest odds he has been quoted at this year- while Romney is 11/8 second favourite.

Sharpe added: “Obama has struggled to impose himself on the forthcoming race as he did last time out and many political punters now believe he is more vulnerable than at any time since taking office.”

Latest William Hill odds:

To win Republican nomination: 1/2 Romney; 5/2 Perry; 8/1 Cain; 20/1 Paul; 28/1 Huntsman; 40/1 Bachmann. Others on request.

To win US Presidential election: Evens Obama; 11/8 Romney; 9/1 Perry; 16/1 Cain; 25/1 Paul; 40/1 Huntsman; 80/1 Bachmann.
