Lord Leveson 33/1 to referee Tug-of-War between Commons and Lords

The Houses of Commons and Lords are set to battle it out with a piece of rope, with Ladbrokes offering lots of odds

Lord Leveson may be set to take a break from interrogating political leaders at the High Court in order to ensure their colleagues’ fair play in open combat at Westminster Abbey, according to Ladbrokes.

Leveson is 33/1 to referee the Tug-of-War match between the House of Commons and the House of Lords, due to take place tomorrow evening (12th June) in the College Gardens. The MPs look set to retain their title however, being odds-on to win at 1/3 whilst the Lords are 2/1.

The annual event is held in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, raising over £110,000 for the cause last year, and features the flagship battle between the two Houses of Parliament in addition to other struggles including Parliamentary Ladies vs Macmillan Ladies and Fire & Rescue vs 17 Port & Maritime Regiment.

A portly Westminster Media Team featuring some recognised names and faces are 1/4 favourites to beat their opposition as they contend with Total Politics magazine (5/2) to see who can take the political media crown.

Punters can also get odds of 6/1 on any Conservative MP taking the opportunity to release some frustration and trip up one of their Liberal Democrat coalition colleagues during the match.

Richard Royal, Public Affairs Manager at Ladbrokes, said:

“The Leveson Inquiry seems to know no bounds in its judgement of politicians and the media, I’m just thankful that politicians and the media are on different teams at this event!”
