London Mayoral Election betting - Boris Johnson unstoppable

Boris Johnson is 1/7 to be the next mayor of London

Boris Johnson is a huge favourite to win the London Mayoral Election but who will finish third?

Boris Johnson has attracted 88% of the total cash bet to date on the London Mayoral race according to Ladbrokes.

While the latest opinion polls leave Ken far closer to favourite Boris, the bookies' assessment of figures makes bleak reading for the Labour candidate - who is responsible for just 7% of the money staked in the betting heat to date.

A late surge of bets in the London area for Johnson have seen his odds fall to just 1/7 while Livingstone remains easy to back at 4/1.

Another interesting statistic concerns the race for third; despite Brian Paddick being the 4/7 favourite for the podium finish he's only responsible for a tiny 0.1% of stakes to date in comparison to Siobhan Benita who commands 2% of the overall book. She's 7/2 to trump Paddick for third while Green candidate Jenny Jones is a 4/1 shot. Bets for Jones to win make up the 1.9% of money taken on all other runners.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes told Bettingpro:

"When people put their money where their mouth is the results differ hugely. Despite taking bets from the entire country nearly all Boris backers are London based."

He added: "All signs now point to a victory for Johnson. The most likely upset appears to be Benita pipping Paddick for third."
