Irish President debate betting - Martin McGuinness favourite to be interrupted

The race to be Irish President is taking place, with a televised debate taking place on the Late Late Show this week

The first major Presidential debate will take place tomorrow night when the seven confirmed candidates running for the Aras appear on RTE’s Late Late Show, and to add to the excitement of what will surely be a heated discussion, Paddy Power is offering a wide range of specials on the night.

Sinn Fein’s Martin McGuinness looks to be in the firing line with Paddy Power making him their 5/2 favourite to be interrupted first by host Ryan Tubridy. Female candidates Mary Davis and Dana look a safe bet at 9/2 and 6/1 to avoid a Tubs interruption.

In the fashion stakes, it’s just 5/4 that Senator David Norris, who previously won awards for his stylish dress sense, dons a blue tie on the night and 6/4 he opts for confident red. The odds on Norris tickling the audience with a pink tie are 20/1, while it’s 66/1 he goes all out with an extravagant dickie bow.

The cheeky bookie is also offering betting on which cliché or phrase is thrown out first amongst the candidates. “People of Ireland” is the 4/1 favourite followed by “Aras” at 6/1, “Peace” at 10/1 and “Eamon De Valera” at 40/1. With Dana amongst this year’s runners, “Eurovision Song Contest” has got to be an option at 66/1!

Paddy Power will also be running a poll on their website for punters to vote on who they think came across the best on the Friday night chat show, the results of which will be announced on Sunday afternoon.
