Paddy Power are tipping Thursday 1st October at odds of 4/5 to be the day when Ireland takes to the polls for a second time to vote on the Lisbon Treaty

The bookmaker is mooting three possible dates but October 1st has been the popular choice with punters so far.

With Libertas leader Declan Ganley now ruling himself out of heading a second No campaign it’s hoped that the treaty will be passed and put forward. And at odds of 1/6 it seems bettors agree that a yes vote is well on its way with the Irish public. 

While the final details of the new guarantees have yet to be announced, Ireland will more than likely get to retain their own EU commissioner. With this in mind Paddy Power have opened betting on who will take the job as Ireland’s next EU commissioner.

Former politician and current President of the European Movement International, Pat Cox, is the bookies 5/4 favourite, followed by Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey at 7/2 and Eoin Ryan at 5/1. Former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is an outsider at high odds of 50/1, but not as high as Declan Ganley himself who is the rank outsider at 500/1!
