Fianna Fail have gained support after an unpopular budget from Fine Gael Minister for Finance Michael Noonan.

Following the Minister for Finance Michael Noonan’s budget speech today Paddy Power tightened the odds on Fianna Fail winning the most seats at the next General Election from 11/8 to Even money.

With the next Irish General Election not likely to take place for another four years, that leaves plenty more unfavourable budgets to be announced from the current Government and while the opposition party Fianna Fail aren’t exactly in peoples favour right now, they could very well be come 2016.

Sharon McHugh, spokesperson for Paddy Power told Bettingpro:

“The current Government faces a tough task trying to stay in people’s good books while being the bearers of bad news. As the old saying says ‘a week is a long time in politics’ and with fifty-two of them in the year I guess our punters feel a lot could happen down the line!”

Paddy Power are also betting on who will introduce the last budget of this Dáil. Minister Noonan is the 6/4 favourite followed by Brendan Howlin and Richard Bruton both at 5/2.

But it wasn’t all doom and gloom today. Those punters who had a flutter on the Minister for Finance donning a yellow tie at 16/1 had plenty to smile about.
