Eric Pickles tucked into a Chicken Chow Mein as Ladbrokes paid out on its novelty market on the DCLG Secretary

The bookies have been forced to pay out to hungry punters again after Eric Pickles fulfilled his annual Ladbrokes Challenge by visiting a Chinese Restaurant during the Conservatives Party Conference in Manchester.

The DCLG Secretary twittered 'Pay Up Ladbrokes - Paying for my own Chicken Chow Mein' on the final day of conference and was snapped with a bemused waiter after Ladbrokes offered odds of evens on him visiting a Chinese restaurant during the week.

It follows him visiting Harry Ramsdens in Brighton and a curry house in Birmingham at previous party conferences, both of which led to Ladbrokes paying out considerable sums on its popular novelty market.

Richard Royal of Ladbrokes told Bettingpro: "Eric has got us for the third year running and our punters will get a tidy handout to treat themselves to a Chinese! I'll be crying into my duck with black bean sauce this evening."
