Boris Johnson has been backed from 20/1 to 8/1 with William Hill to become the next Mayor of London.

In other political betting news, with Gordon Brown putting up the idea of weekend voting for future General Elections, William Hill are quoting odds of 8/1 that the next one will take place on a Saturday or Sunday or across both days. Hills are also offering 7/1 that the Conservatives will have discarded David Cameron as their Leader by the time the next General Election comes round - 1/16 that he will still be in charge
 
For the first time in over a year, Labour have become favourites to win the next General Eelction with Hills cutting odds from 11/10 to 8/11, and lengthened the Conservatives from 4/6 to even money to be the largest single Party after the next General Election.

'Many political pundits forecast that the Conservatives would become even hotter favourites once Gordon Brown succeeded Tony Blair, but punters have disagreed emphatically and all the recent support has been for a Labour victory and they are now favourites for the first time in over a year.' said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

Hills have the Lib Dem at 100/1 and have lengthened the odds about a Hung Parliament from 4/5 to Even money.

William Hill have cut the odds about a General Election being held in 2008 from 10/1 to 5/1 as political punters back rumours that Gordon Brown is planning to go to the country sooner rather than later. Hills still make 2009 1/ 2 favourite to be the year of the next Election, but 2007 is down to 16/1 from 25/1, while Hills offer 3/1 that the next Election will not take place until 2010 or later.
