Triumphs in the canoe slalom and the double trap shooting on Thursday afternoon have doubled Team GB’s gold medal haul at the 2012 Olympic games.

Shooter Peter Wilson was the first to take gold as he held off Sweden’s Hakan Dahlby in front of a raucous crowd at the Royal Artillery Barracks to become Britain’s first shooting medallist for 12 years.

Moments later it was the turn of Tim Baillie and Etienne Stott who claimed Britain’s first ever canoe slalom gold with a flawless run at the Lee Valley White Water Centre. The British duo, who are ranked sixth in the world, were then accompanied on the podium by compatriots David Florence and Richard Hounslow who chased their teammates home to claim the silver medal.

However, that still wasn’t the end of the medals for Team GB on a fantastic afternoon for the host nation as Gemma Gibbons then went on to secure silver in the judo 78kg category to become the first Britton in 12 years to win an Olympic judo medal of any colour. Gibbons adding to the silver that the men's lightweight fours won in the rowing at Eton Dorney earlier in the day.

As a result of Britain’s stellar afternoon across a range of sports Betfred are now offering odds of 5/4 that Team GB win more than 63 medals of any colour throughout the games. Having climbed up to fifth in the overall rankings with a total of 14 medals, and action from the Velopark and athletics still to come, that is starting to become an increasingly popular bet amongst punters.
