Ghana’s first Winter Olympian ready to take to the slopes
Ghana’s first ever Winter Olympic qualifier, Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, is set to make his debut tomorrow in the slalom, which will be screened at 19:00 GMT on BBC2, or from 18:00 GMT via the red interactive button.
Kwame, nicknamed the Snow Leopard, has received a huge welcome in Canada, and having received little support from the Ghanaian sporting authorities, has been adopted by PaddyPower, who gave the skier a £1,000 charity bet, which he has placed on himself, to beat three of his fellow competitors, at odds of 10/1.
Paddy Power said “Everyone at Paddy Power is right behind Kwame and believe he is going to have a great race, we even hope he wins his bet with us!”
Competition in the slalom is tough, and Kwame’s odds of 500/1 to win the competition reflect this. If, however, you want to support the Snow Leopard, you can bet on how many other racers he will beat, with one available at 15/8, two at 7/2 and six or more 6/1.
Kwame Nkrumah-Acheampong, The Snow Leopard said
“I can’t believe my race is finally here, having seen everyone else compete I just want to get out there. Thanks to everyone who supported me from my family, support team and of course sponsors Paddy Power! Watch out here comes the Snow Leopard!”
