Olympics 2012 Day 7 betting tips - Friday's 3 best bets

LONDON, ENGLAND - AUGUST 02: Sir Chris Hoy of Great Britain celebrates after setting a new world record and winning gold in the Men's Team Sprint Track Cycling final on Day 6 of the London 2012 Olympic Games at Velodrome on August 2, 2012 in London, England. (Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)

Friday sees the start of the athletics in Olympic Park but the best bets of the day come from the Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and Wimbledon.

London 2012 burst into life for Team GB in the last 48 hours with four golds and the sport that has really capturted the public's attention is cycling with Bradley Wiggins and Chris Hoy both staking their claims to be Britain's greatest olympian after some stunning performances on Wednesday and Thursday.

Chris Hoy to win the Keirin @4/6 Stan James

On Tuesday Hoy will be back in the Velodrome and the Scot is the hot favourite to win gold in the Keirin, an event which he won four years ago in Beijing. It is a solo event so Hoy will not have his powerful team to support him but what he does have is a motorbike to pace him as the travels around the track. After that, the 38-year-old will be on his own but that shouldn't be a problem for the man who cycled the last leg of the Team Sprint in a world record time in both the heats and the final.

Hoy is 4/6 at Stan James to claim an incredible sixth Olympic gold and it would be one of the shocks of the games if he failed to do so, particularly with the backing of an incredibly supportive home crowd. The event may not be until Tuesday but get on him now before the price plummets to a more realistic 1/3 next week!

Andy Murray to beat Novak Djokovic @29/16 Pinnacle

It could be blind patriotism but I'm willing to back another Brit on Friday and that is the much maligned Andy Murray. The Scot may have failed to win Wimbledon but he has been undeniably impressive at the Olympics, only dropping one set en route to the semi finals.

Murray faces his toughest test of the tournament this afternoon when he takes on world number two Novak Djokovic but it may well be one which he can win. Djokovic was disappointing at Wimbledon, where he was outclassed by Roger Federer, and he hasn't looked totally comfortable at the All England Club over the last week. He lost sets to both Fabio Fognini and Lleyton Hewitt before labouring to a win over a tired Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The Serb looks vulnerable and this is a perfect opportunity for Murray to be facing him.

The best of three format favours the British number one, who starts much better than his opponent, and the hoime crowd will also be a massive boost. Odds of almost 2/1 are simply too big to pass over and I'm willing to pay the price if my patriotism is misplaced.

Elizabeth Beisel to win 200m Backstroke @11/5 Betfred

The focus of this race is America Missy Franklin but the 17-year-old wasn't anywhere near as impressive as her team mate, Elizabeth Beisel, in qualifying for Friday's final. The 19-year-old qualified 0.66 seconds faster than Franklin, who looked tired after going out very fast in her semi final. It could be that a gruelling Olympic schedule is catching up on the youngster and that makes her opposable.

It is a best price of 4/7 with Boylesports that Franklin claims gold but Beisel, who was beaten in the 400m IM by the stunning Ye Shewin, is the value bet at 11/5. If she loses to a similarly inspired performance from Franklin then so be it but I'm willing to pay to see it.
