Idowu won silver at last year's Olympics and is now targeting medals at the London 2012 Olympics. However, Olympic champion Christine Ohuruogu could not earn a medal, finishing fifth in the women's 400m final. Idowu is the defending Commonwealth Games and world indoor champion, and won gold by smashing his previous best of 17.68, set in 2002.
