Claiming their first win is Great Britain and Algeria's main goal when they face each other in Pool A of the London Olympics women's volleyball tournament on Monday.

The British received a baptism of fire at the hands of the Russians in their opening match. The hosts lost in three sets 19-25 10-25 16-25 in their maiden appearance in the Olympic volleyball event.

Team captain Lynne Beattie was the only British player to score in double digits, tallying 11 points. Rachel Bragg added six points, including five blocks.

Algeria, meanwhile, was no match for Japan. The African champions lost to the Japanese 15-25 14-25 7-25. Zohra Bensalem led the Algerians with nine points.
