Team GB remain in 4x400m Olympic contention

Great Britain have a great chance of adding to their medal tally following the men's qualification for the 4x400m final.

The quartet of Nigel Levine, Conrad Williams, Jack Green and Martyn Rooney ran their season's best time in finishing second to Trinidad & Tobago, with both awarded the same time of 3:00.38. However, the crowd were denied the chance of seeing South African Oscar Pistorius run when one of his team-mates fell.

Green may well have run himself into the team with a brilliant third leg at the expense of Team GB captain Dai Greene, giving the selectors a headache ahead of Friday's final, which Britain are 13.00 to win with Trinidad & Tobago at 11.00 with Bet365.

"I wanted a chance to run after my disappointment in the 400m hurdles," said Green.

"I had a lot to prove and I would like to think I deserve to be on this stage."

Rooney, who eased off at the end of the final leg, added: "It was incredible. I want to apologise to the guys for not winning it. Trinidad's guy was a sprinter and he dipped at the end. Tomorrow, we will come back and do better."

The Bahamas, who are 3.25 to take gold, won the second semi-final in 2:58.87, just ahead of the USA, who can be backed at 1.53 with Bet365. Jamaica failed to finish the race, meaning Usain Bolt misses out on the chance to compete for four gold medals.
